Olivia Rodrigo’s second single, “bad idea right?” from her forthcoming album GUTS is officially out. And despite the track’s title, everything — from the relatable struggle of saying goodbye to an ex, to guitar strums, and the Petra Collins directed music video — we repeat, EVERYTHING about it is an excellent idea.

Following up "vampire" which dropped at the end of June, and revealing the album’s full tracklist last week, “bad idea right?” has arrived with less than one month to go before GUTS is released on September 8. On behalf of anyone struggling to not answer that late night call from an ex, Olivia is here to say, or rather sing, that she totally get’s it.
The lyrics in her latest track have Olivia going back and forth debating the unspoken rule of evading your unavailable ex, and despite knowing that it’s a “bad idea right?,” Olivia ultimately says “f*** it” and does it anyway.
In the song’s music video, Rodrigo, at a house party with her besties, Iris Apatow, Madison Hu and Tate McRae, sneaks away to go see an old boyfriend that she obviously knows she shouldn’t. Ignoring obstacle after obstacle getting in her her path back to her old flame’s bed, Olivia sings, “Yes, I know that he’s my ex / But can’t two people reconnect? / I only see him as a friend / The biggest lie I ever said.” We get it girl, and hey, at least she’s self-aware.
Olivia eventually arrives at her ex-boyfriend’s frat-boy decorated flat, makes her way to his bedroom, hops on his bed, however he’s fittingly caught on fire before the song ends.
We love a good ending.
