Just because he is the newly crowned “Sexiest Man Alive,” it doesn't mean that Paul Rudd doesn't feel self-conscious about his appearance at times.
While filming for his role in “Avengers: Endgame,” the actor shared that he had to train a lot to get his physique superhero-ready.
Despite that, the 52-year-old said In an interview with People that his costar Chris Hemsworth’s toned abs and bulging biceps made him question why he bothered exercising.
“I remember on the set of ‘Endgame,’ I was working out so hard, eating perfect, for so long, training like an athlete,” Rudd noted. “And I stood next to Chris Hemsworth, and I thought, ‘What’s the point?’ Why even try, ’cause there’s that.”
Hemsworth plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Rudd joined the franchise as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in the 2015 film “Ant-Man.
Both stars appeared in the blockbuster movie “Endgame,” though a notable amount of Hemsworth’s screen time was while his character was overweight.
Rudd is currently in the UK filming the next installment, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” He shared that he doesn’t care if he has to exercise and diet a lot. However, he did share that he cheats now and then.
“I’ve been in London a lot this year, and when Sunday rolls around, I allow myself one day,” Rudd said. “I’ll go get a Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding and roast beef and a pint of Guinness, and then I’ll usually have tea and biscuits after and, like, it’s the greatest thing ever.”
This week, on an episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” Colbert told the actor about his new title.
“Right now, there is one major question on absolutely everyone’s minds: Who will be People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2021? In these divided times, it’s the last thing that all Americans care about,” Colbert said as he shared that this year’s predictions included Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson.
“Well, all the speculation ends tonight, ladies and gentlemen, because it is my distinct honor to have been chosen by the good people at People to be the official person to announce this year’s Sexiest Man Alive,” Colbert noted, “and it is not a responsibility that I take lightly.”
Throughout the episode, Colbert put Rudd through several “sexiness” tests, including a photoshoot as a construction worker, a physical exam, and even a Westminster Dog Show-style judging round. It then involved the 52-year-old pouring water over his head, leading him to say, “Help me, I’m drowning in sexiness.”
After the tests, Colbert then told Rudd that he did a great job.
“There’s nothing sexier than humility, and you passed!” Colbert said, “Paul, you’re the sexiest man alive.”
