Piers Morgan reacts to birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter

Over the weekend, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the birth of their second child, daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

While many wished the couple well on their new bundle of joy, Piers Morgan shared his harsh reaction to their daughter’s name.

On Australia’s “Today” program, Morgan gave his opinion about the decision behind the name of Markle and Prince Harry’s second child, according to Insider.

In a statement, the royal couple explained how the name Lilibet was taken from Queen Elizabeth II’s family nickname. The baby’s middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

“It’s quite ironic, isn’t it,” Morgan said. “You have this couple who have been trashing the royal family and the monarchy for the last few weeks and they have named the baby after the Queen, who is, of course, the head of the royal family and the monarchy.”

Morgan gave his opinion and shared that it is quite possible that the couple could be trying to repair their relationship with the royal family by naming their child after Queen Elizabeth.

The child was born at 11:40 am on Friday, June 4th, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. Lili weighed in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces at birth.

Lili is a sibling to Markle and Harry’s 2-year-old son Archie.

Markle and Harry also took to their Archewell website to share the happy news, writing, “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Lili’s birth has been much anticipated since Markle announced her pregnancy back on Valentine’s Day. The couple shared at the time, “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
