He recently released his eighth studio album Watch The Sun featuring collaborations with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Nas, Jill Scott, and Wale. On the latest episode of the Broken Record podcast, PJ Morton talks to Bruce Headlam about what it was like growing up as Bishop Paul S. Morton’s son, and how his relationship with Gospel music has impacted his career.

“We weren't allowed to listen to secular music on Sundays on the radio,” says Morton. "But one of my dad’s favorite singers was Anita Baker. I remember Micheal Jackson, Prince, Stevie, and Whitney Houston. I remember hearing that in the household too.” Morton also talks about being a recovering workaholic, life during the pandemic, and his friendship the legendary Stevie Wonder.

“It didn't really turn into a full relationship till about three years ago… we really started to build then. After my album Gumbo first began, he told me he loved that song. He told me that he wishes he wrote that song. I don’t need any more compliments in life, that's it for me,” Morton continued.
