Sarah Michelle Gellar – star of the beloved fantasy series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” – is jumping in with her suggestion for who she'd want to take over the titular role should a "Buffy" remake materialize.

"I vote Zendaya," Gellar, 44, told author Evan Ross Katz in his new book, "Into Every Generation a Slayer is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts," reported Insider.

Gellar played the titular vampire slayer through the whole seven season run of the cult classic that premiered in 1997 on the WB network and ended in 2003 on UPN. The show spun off the original 1992 movie starring Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry, which was directed by Josh Whedon, who also created the series.

While Buffy constantly got enmeshed in terrifying battles with monsters of all sorts, she also had to deal with traditional teenage troubles, which made for a fun modern updating of the usual vampire legends. The show’s popularity has grown to cult status over the years via syndication, fan fictions, podcasts, and more.

Asked by Katz about Gellar's Zendaya casting suggestion, "Buffy" co-star Julie Benz agreed: "That would be amazing."

Zendaya is indeed a fantastic suggestion. She’s already dabbled in the fantasy zone, as she starred in 2021’s “Dune” reboot and is slated to appear in “Dune II” in 2023. Plus, she nailed the teen troubles mixed with superhero conflicts as Spider-Man’s girlfriend MJ - alongside real-life boyfriend Tom Holland - in the lastest "Spider-Man" franchise. And she's garnered success and critical acclaim in HBO's teen drama “Euphoria.”

And as Insider noted, Zendaya’s name has already been floated for another possible reimagining.

Actress Vivica A. Fox previously told British outlet New Musical Express that she would be all for Zendaya assuming the role of her on-screen daughter in a future "Kill Bill" sequel -- something that film's director, Quentin Tarantino, has been mulling over. But then, he's also talked about remaking Rambo too, so who knows.

For cult film fanatics, this Zendaya as Buffy idea sounds great, but for now it’s just fun speculation as there hasn't been much news on a possible reboot of the series since 2018.
