Currently rounding the bases on their farewell world tour, Sum 41 were recently forced to cut short their Australia leg due to frontman Deryck Whibley being stricken with pneumonia.

According to a statement shared by Sum 41, the band needed to cancel the remainder of their Aussie dates, including a headlining appearance at Good Things Festival, because frontman Deryck Whibley had recently been hospitalized with pneumonia, and had been given doctors’ orders saying he is too sick to perform.
"It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed," the band wrote. "We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 – December 12, and connect with our Aussie fans once more. Now that we're here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it's clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform. We understand and appreciate your disappointment — we're gutted too."
"The good news is Good Things Festival is still going ahead in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this weekend with an incredible line-up of local and international acts," the statement continued. "We can't be there, but get along for us and have the best time."
The latest announcement follows the band’s December 4 cancelation at Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley Music Hall, with the band stating at the time, “Unfortunately, we have to make the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s show in Brisbane due to Deryck being diagnosed with pneumonia. He is receiving the best possible local care.”
Together since 1996, this final tour has been a massive party for the group's throngs of fans worldwide, commemorating three decades of music including their 2024 release, Heaven X Hell. At the very end of this final world tour, Sum 41 is set to perform their largest show to date to a sold-out crowd of over 35,000 people at Paris La Défense Arena in France, before playing their last show as a band in Toronto, Ontario on January 30, 2025.
