Nominated for a CMT Music Award for Best Family Feature, Brooke Eden stops by Let’s Go There w/ Shira Lazar & Ryan Mitchell on Audacy's Channel Q to chat about her song "Sunroof" and experiencing her first Pride.

Eden has received a nomination at the 2021 CMT Music Awards and said “it’s the first time a queer couple has been nominated for anything really.”

“Featuring Hilary, my fiancée, in my music video, I didn’t know how it would be received. To be nominated for a video award is so cool and just shows the progression that’s happening in Country music.”

Eden took a break from music following her 2016 album Welcome to the Weekend and took Let’s Go There inside the toll it took on her. “Hilary and I have been together for five-and-a-half years and we were told by music execs that if I wanted to keep my career in Country music, we needed to keep our relationship a secret,” Eden said. “That really took a toll on me and took a toll on my body. I ended up getting ulcers that made me get off the road.”

“That was a huge wake up call for me realizing that it wasn’t just taking a toll on my mental health, but being in the closet was taking a toll on my physical health as well.”

When she was ready to make her return, Eden went to her label with an ultimatum. “I went to my record label and was like, ‘y’all listen, I either need to put this music out and be completely 100% authentic or not put out music. Because I can’t be one and not the other,’” she said.

“Luckily, my label was very supportive and had my back and said ‘let’s go.’”
