A prosperous “Wheel of Fortune” contest spun her luck as she made history on the famous show by being the first to win a brand new house. However, her celebration could have cost her an eye.
Yahoo! Entertainment reports that this occurrence may have been the most significant prize fans of the show have ever seen.
During the episode, Laura Trammell, a sixth-grade teacher, made it to the bonus round. This opportunity allowed her to win a new property in a Latitude Margaritaville community.
Ahead of the bonus round, the contest already had $23,690 in total winnings.
This week, “Wheel of Fortune” announced its “Home Sweet Home” giveaway in partnership with Latitude Margaritaville and Minto. This opportunity allows contestants to earn a home in the last round.
Trammell solved the last puzzle, which read, “I caught a glimpse.”
Pat Sajak then opened the envelope to reveal she was the lucky winner of an enormous prize for the night. Her new home is valued at $375,000, which brought her total prize money to $398,690.
“This is just nuts,” Sajak said.
When the episode returned, she’d caught her breath and explained how she was “still in shock.”
“I am beyond excited, I’m still in shock. I still can’t believe it just happened,” she added.
While the moment was exciting, things almost led to a disaster for co-host Vanna White. When Trammell won, the set blasted canons with confetti. However, the cannons got a little too close for comfort for White.
“First thing, I have to tell you that, when you won, Vanna was running across the stage, and the confetti came out, and you got whacked in the head by a clump of confetti,” Sajak noted.
In the video, White covers her as she walks over to Sajak.
“Thank goodness, it wasn’t my eye,” she said. “You could’ve put your eye out!” Sajak exclaimed.
