After hitting #1 on the Country charts just weeks ago with her hit, “What He Didn’t Do,” Carly Pearce is ready for another run up the charts — this time with Country superstar, Chris Stapleton.
The song, playing across all Audacy Country stations on June 16, was written by Pearce alongside frequent collaborators Shane McAnally and Pete Good. It marks the first new music since her third studio album, 29: WRITTEN IN STONE.
“I’ve always wanted to write music that impacted people and maybe said the things that were a little bit uncomfortable or a little bit of [gasps] that kind of a feeling,” Pearce told Audacy of the new release. “I feel like this song does that and I’m just so proud of what this song says. I’m proud of the lyrics, I’m proud of the way that It sounds. I think it’s going to sound different on the radio and maybe stand out. I am the most proud that I will forever have a song with one of the greatest singers of all time.”
Pearce first teased the collaboration a few months ago ahead of her set at Tortuga Music Festival. Pearce kept fans guessing on who the featured guest would be, only hinting “It’s not a female.”
Weeks later, Pearce revealed Stapleton as the special guest sharing she heard his voice on the track since the moment she wrote it.
"When we wrote it, I heard Chris singing on it. I don't know why," Carly shared. "I DM'd his wife, Morganne, and asked her if I could send a song for him and it just snowballed. He ended up doing something so special on it that kind of just unlocked the other side to the story. It's literally the most proud I've ever been to put out a song."
