After nearly 25 years as a band, the writing of Asphalt Meadows began in the early part of the COVID pandemic, a time when Death Cab for Cutie wasn't even sure how to make a record. With all five members (Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper, and Zac Rae) each residing in four different cities, hitting the studio together wasn't an option. The unconventional recording process managed to push the veteran rockers in entirely new and unexpected directions creatively -- and ironically, the isolated circumstances have led to the creation of their most collaborative album to date.
Death Cab For Cutie's forthcoming album, Asphalt Meadows, will arrive everywhere on Friday, September 16. Pre-orders are available now, plus listen to the first offering, "Roman Candles," right here.
Fans of the band, currently on the road with U.S. dates scheduled through the end of October, have likely heard the track performed live, but today's official release is just one further step towards the full release. Check out DCFC's remaining list of tour stops below and grab your tickets now!
