The 7 Best Restaurants Near Dodger Stadium

Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles

There are a few ways to handle a meal before or after a game at Dodger Stadium, should you somehow resist the temptation of a Dodger Dog (or if you consider the ballpark frank more of an appetizer or dessert). You can load up on tacos and micheladas from a string of old school Mexican restaurants strung along Sunset. You can throw back some beers and bar snacks in the hipster dives of Echo Park or craft beer bars in Chinatown or DTLA. You can plan your pregame or postgame around the Dodger Stadium Express shuttle, which runs every 10 minutes between the stadium and Union Station. Or you can select a post-game spot to post up for hours of celebration (or, we guess, commiseration).

No matter how you play it, take our tips on the best restaurants nearby, and you will find yourself well fueled, well buzzed and ready to cheer on the boys in blue.

El Compadre

All three locations of El Compadre are parties pretty much any night of the week, but the Echo Park location takes things to the next level on game days. The bar is infamous for its flaming margaritas, which come in your choice of fruity flavors, all topped with lime wedges set ablaze. Expect the place to be packed with fans carbo loading on enchiladas and chips with guacamole.

Mexicali Taco

Skip the line at Guisados and head straight for this lowkey joint straight out of Mexicali. Esdras Ochoa has been making some of the best carne asada in the city since he set up a food cart in 2009 to serve Northern Mexican favorites. The taquero has since moved operations into a brick and mortar shop in Chinatown, conveniently enough for any Dodger fan. We suggest snagging the famous quesadilla-like vampiro, a grilled flour tortilla topped with melted cheese, heavenly garlic sauce and your choice of meat.

Philippe The Original

The originator of the French dip sandwich, Philippe can be kind of a madhouse on game days, but it’s worth facing the lines to chow down on the famous beef double dip doused in jus. The restaurant’s 10 lines, headed by expert “carvers”, handle the blue-clad crowd with ease. If you have time, sit with your sando and dip to your heart’s content, but more likely you’ll grab your French dip to go and bring it along for a second-inning feast.

Cielito Lindo

Established in 1934, Cielito Lindo has been selling buzzworthy taquitos from a small stand on Olvera Street since long before the Dodgers came to town. It’s also just down the block from Union Station (which it also predated), so you can devour taquitos until the last second before hopping on the shuttle. There isn’t much in the way of seating (or walls for that matter), but the eatery is still one of our favorite places to hang downtown. We would happily drown in the house special avocado sauce.

Button Mash

To pregame with a few games of your own, head to Button Mash, which is full of old school arcade machines to help you burn off some nervous energy before the first pitch or wait out traffic after the game. The barcade is especially useful for late-night meals, with dishes like crispy tofu balls, Vietnamese egg rolls, and coconut curry nachos to sop up your long night of gametime brewskies.

Imperial Western Beer Company

For sheer proximity to the stadium shuttle, Imperial Western Beer Company in Union Station can’t be beat. The operation from 213 Hospitality sits within the historic vaulted train station, lending a note of gravitas to your pregame. Fill up on eats like everything pretzel balls and chicken wings, while generating a buzz with pitchers from the bar’s serious tap list.

The Little Jewel of New Orleans

This misnamed restaurant is really the little jewel of Chinatown. For a different sort of sandwich than you’ll find at the joints above, head to Little Jewel for oyster po’boys and muffalettas (or anything else from the extensive menu) made quick and snappy. Grab a beer from the fridge, eat up, and get yourself over to that shuttle.
