(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —As a way to attract more workers during the current labor shortage, some businesses are offering to let full-time employees work four days a week instead of five.
Dr. Mahesh Subramony, a professor of business management at Northern Illinois University, said the four-day schedule can help employees improve their work-life balance by giving them an extra day off.
He says the four-day week could also force some employers to hire even more people to cover shifts left open by the shorter work week. This could be difficult in the current labor market, Subramony said.
He suggests businesses considering a four-day work week try it first with a small group of employees to see if the benefits outweigh the problems.
