Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) released a new campaign ad on Thursday that featured her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, ripping apart former President Donald Trump and calling him a "coward."
The one-minute video was posted on Cheney's Twitter, as the Wyoming primary elections are coming up soon on August 16 and she is in a tight race against Harriet Hageman, an attorney who has received an endorsement from Trump.
"In our nation's 246-year history, there has never been an individual that was a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump," Cheney said in the video. "He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters rejected him.
"He is a coward. A real man wouldn't lie to his supporters. He lost his election, and he lost big. I know it, he knows it and deep down, I think most Republicans know it."
Cheney went on in the video to say how proud he and his wife, Lynne, are of their daughter for her work as the Vice Chairwoman of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
"Lynne and I are so proud of Liz for standing up for the truth," Cheney said. "Doing what's right, honoring her oath to the Constitution, when so many in our party are scared to do so. Liz is fearless. She never backs down from a fight.
"There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office and she will succeed."
Cheney has served three terms as congresswoman in Wyoming, but many of her Republican opponents have attacked her for voting to impeach Trump and her role in the Jan. 6 panel.
She is up against four others for the House seat, with Hageman as her top competition. According to a July poll by the Casper Star-Tribune, Cheney trailed Hageman by 22%, down 52% to 30%. With the primary less than two weeks away, Hageman agreed with Trump and his supporters on Wednesday by saying that the 2020 election was "rigged," according to The Hill.
