A brave dog was at the center of a rescue effort last week near Tahoe National Forest.
According to a post by the Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team on Facebook last Wednesday, a 53-year-old man fell around 70 feet in the mountainous terrain.
He'd sustained injuries in the fall, what he suspected to be a broken hip and broken ribs. While CAL FIRE and the sheriff's office were called in to help, the credit for the rescue goes to the man's Border Collie, officials said.
The pup ran around 200 yards "in true 'Lassie' fashion" to flag down two searchers of the 25-member team and lead them back to where his master had fallen. The injured man was covered in a camouflage tarp at the site.

When he was located by rescue personnel, he was transported to a landing zone a half mile away where the California Highway Patrol was able to transfer him into an air ambulance. "Great work and skill by all involved today," the post described. As for the heroic canine, "he was transported back to Grass Valley and given a well deserved dinner."
The man has not been identified.
