'And That's Why We Drink' hosts discuss one of the scariest stories they've encountered

“And That’s Why We Drink," available on the RADIO.COM app, is a podcast touching on true crime, conspiracy theories, and the paranormal. With Halloween right around the corner, hosts Christine Schiefer and Em Schulz are thinking back on some of the scarier stories they've encountered.

In a conversation with RADIO.COM, Schiefer and Schulz talked about all things spooky – even highlighting the moment they were perhaps the most scared in hosting the podcast.

“There was this terrifying doll, and I’m not going to say her name because apparently bad things happen, especially technologically when you bring her up,” Christine began. On a trip to Vegas with friends, Schulz and Schiefer decided to interact with the doll, on display at a museum.

And while the pair got through the experience relatively unscathed, some of their listeners were not so lucky.

And That

“Em and I got home and covered the doll on an episode, and it sort of like spurred this huge thing among our listeners,” Schiefer continued, adding that some listeners wrote in complaining of broken down cars and bloody noses while listening to the episode.

“It was the only time we actually gave what Em says is a ‘trigger warning’ for an episode, because this doll was just causing so much chaos. So we don’t say her name anymore because apparently things don’t go well,” Schiefer continued.

“I think that was one of the more hands-on, real experiences we had where we saw it in real life and then accidentally dumped it on everybody else who listens to the show…so that scared me,” Schiefer said.

Meanwhile, there have been some other stories in the past that the duo wouldn’t even touch when it came to creating a podcast episode. One of which is the story of the Toy-Box Killer, a man who repeatedly tortured and killed women.

“I couldn’t even get through the transcript let alone read the whole story,” Schulz explained.

In terms of other, more general rules they hold for creating episodes, there are areas they’re careful about covering. “I don’t know if this is a firm boundary for us, but we are hesitant towards anything that involves animals or children,” Schulz said.

As for upcoming episodes, fans of “And That’s Why We Drink” have a lot to look forward to with Halloween looming.

“We don’t tell each other in advance what our episodes are, but I will say that I have an interesting Halloween episode that people should tune in to,” Schulz revealed.
