VENICE, Fla. (1010 WINS) -- Gabby Petito’s mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Florida on Friday against Brian Laundrie’s estate.

Nicole Schmidt is seeking $30 million in damages for the murder of her daughter.
The lawsuit argues compensation is necessary because Petito's parents have "incurred funeral and burial expenses, and they have suffered a loss of care and comfort, and suffered a loss of probable future companionship, society and comfort."
The lawsuit, which was first reported by Fox News, was filed in a Florida circuit court and calls for a jury trial.
Petito’s parents filed a different lawsuit against Laundrie’s parents in March, which alleged Chris and Roberta Laundrie were aware their son was responsible for Petito’s death before that news was publicly known.
Petito and her fiancé Laundrie were traveling cross-country in a van when she was reported missing in September.
The FBI discovered her remains at a Wyoming national park and launched a manhunt for Laundrie, who was a person of interest in the investigation.
A month later, Laundrie was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Florida.
