After President Joe Biden's positive COVID-19 test, some nationally-known doctors are talking about what the implications are for his health.
Admiral Brett Giroir has reportedly been Biden's "testing czar." He has some concerns about Biden, though vaccinated and boosted, his age being 79 could be a concern.
"We know being vaccinated protects against severe illness and Paxlovid does that as well," Giroir said. "But he's still elderly. He has underlying conditions including atrial fibrillation that is a common arrhythmia in the heart. He's on anticoagulant medications. So he is at risk."
Giroir said that while we should be hopeful, it's a serious situation and that White House doctors should approach it with caution.
Vanderbilt Medical Center infectious disease specialist Dr. William Schaffner agreed with the idea that the President's advanced age could be an issue.
"People of advanced age, they are more likely to develop some of the complications and to develop more severe disease that requires hospitalization," he said. "So surely, we would monitor people like that much more carefully."
Schaffner said doctors are likely monitoring the Biden's blood oxygen levels.
Fox News Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Marc Siegel said Biden's doctors should also look out for something called the "Paxlovid rebound," which occurs in about 7% of all cases.
