The holiday season is upon us. It’s a time of giving, a time of peace on Earth and goodwill towards men, a time to… consume raw eggs mixed with alcohol?
That’s right. It’s eggnog’s time to shine.
But doctors warn that preparing the popular holiday party beverage the wrong way could lead to a bad time for everyone.
Using truly raw eggs when combining your concoction could leave all who imbibe open to salmonella poisoning, a truly unpleasant state that involves cramps, diarrhea, fever and vomiting.
As such, doctors are offering a few guidelines.
Heating the eggs to 160 degrees before tossing them into the mix will kill off any possible harmful bacteria.
Eggnog also should not be kept unrefrigerated for more than two hours, so maybe don’t go back for one last glass for the road if that punch bowl of creamy booze has been sitting out all night.
And of course, there are egg-free recipes that can be easily found across the internet.
Following these simple guidelines will ensure that Santa won’t be bringing intestinal distress this year.
