HomeGoods will soon allow online shopping!
The TJX Companies, which operates the home necessities store, announced plans to launch an e-commerce store in 2021.
A HomeGoods e-commerce platform would “satisfy our customer base and attract new shoppers,” CEO Ernie Herrman told investors on Wednesday.
This is a change from the company’s earlier decision, which told investors that the company “would not look to e-commerce as our major leveraging point to get us through COVID and out the other side,” per The Wall Street Journal.
The announcement comes as shopping habits have gravitated towards the digital sphere largely out of safety and health concerns brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year, TJX Companies were forced to close store doors for several months in the spring resulting in months of revenue loss.
As COVID cases continue to rise, many states have reverted to “stay at home” advisories, which means stores are looking for new ways to get ahead of competition, reach consumers, and stay afloat.
The good news for customers is that it'll be easier than ever to jazz up living quarters, especially amid a pandemic. You’ll no longer have to spend hours perusing the aisles, you’ll simply be able to spend endless hours scrolling and adding to your cart.
The online store is expected to launch in the latter half of 2021. While HomeGoods currently has an online presence, the website is not transactional.
When the website launches, it will offer a similar selection of products including accent furniture, decorative accessories, seasonal items, and more. Hopefully, the bargain prices will also remain a draw!
HomeGoods has offered in-store shopping exclusively since it opened its doors in 1992.
In the meantime, you’ll have to mask up and visit your nearest store for all your home essentials.
