The Best Hotels Near the STAPLES Center

Finding a hotel near the home of the Lakers, Clippers and Kings isn’t all that hard. The STAPLES Center is located in the South Park neighborhood of downtown L.A., where plenty of hotels will happily host sports fans and locals. But if you’re looking for the absolute best hotel within walking distance of the arena, somewhere that won’t just provide a bed but also a few nice amenities and maybe a decent bar where you can relax before or after the game, check out our list of favorite options.

JW Marriott at L.A. Live

Just down the street from the arena, the L.A. Live complex offers the closest hotels to the STAPLES Center. Visitors have a few options, all in the Marriott hotel family, but we like the JW Marriott. A little more affordable than the Ritz-Carlton and a little nicer than The Courtyard and Residence Inn, which also call L.A. Live home, the JW Marriott is our goldilocks hotel, perfect for sheer proximity to games and events.

Ace Hotel

If you feel like catching another show after the game, book a room at the Ace and reserve tickets for whatever’s playing at the hotel’s in-house theater. The three-story vintage movie theater makes a spectacular venue for any kind of music. Upstairs in the hotel, minimalist art deco stylings welcome guests with a simple yet chic mood. Plus, the Ace Hotel is also home to one of our favorite rooftop bars where you can catch the sunset before a game.

Hotel Figueroa

With a slew of new dining options added in 2018, its iconic coffin-shaped pool, and a modern Spanish design reminiscent of Old World style, the Hotel Figueroa offers a uniquely stylish stay right around the corner from the STAPLES Center. Be sure to carve out some time for the world class drinks from famed bartender Dushan Zaric and the Mediterranean-Californian fare from James Beard-nominated chef Casey Lane.

The Freehand

For a young, bohemian hostel vibe with luxury amenities and serious panache, book a bed in a shared room at the Freehand. While you could reserve a private suite, the true experience requires sleeping with strangers in a room of four, six or eight. Don’t worry; this luxed up hostel provides guests with security (lockers), privacy (screens) and elegant bedding (no bed bugs here). If you’re looking for a party before or after your stop at the STAPLES Center, head to the rooftop Broken Shaker bar, where the music and crowd are always buzzing.

The NoMad Hotel

New Yorkers will feel right at home in the NoMad Hotel imported from the Big Apple. The same designer outfitted both locations of the hotel, giving the L.A. location, fitted snugly inside the old neoclassical Bank of Italy building, similar ornate, elegant furnishings like Persian rugs, velvet decorations and freestanding pedestal bathtubs. A series of luxurious eateries and bars offer different vibes for every mood and time of day, so expect to spend some time hanging around your hotel even if you’re in town to explore.
