
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski was killed in a car crash on State Road 19 in northern Indiana, her office announced on Wednesday.
Authorities said Walorski was among four people killed in the accident, including local Republican Party leader Zachary Potts and Walorski’s Communications Director Emma Thompson.
The driver of the other vehicle also died.
Walorski, a Republican, was elected to represent Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District in 2012.
A statement on Walorski’s Twitter account reads:
“Dean Swihart, Jackie’s husband, was just informed by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s office that Jackie was killed in a car accident this afternoon. She has returned home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Prior to her election to the U.S. Congress, Walorski served for three terms in Indiana’s state legislature.
Walorksi was 58.
