First Lady Jill Biden sent the internet into a frenzy when a normal outing for Valentine's Day goodies had her rocking a staple from the '80s and '90s.
While visiting The Sweet Lobby, a Capitol Hill bakery, Biden could be seen sporting a scrunchie in her hair - a detail that eagle-eyed viewers made quite a commotion about.
During an appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Clarkson brought up the iconic image that was snapped of the First Lady and her scrunchie, saying, "I noticed you wore a scrunchie and everybody lost their mind. I think we all wear scrunchies. Are you usually this much of a fashionista with your scrunchies?"
Biden responded, noting that it was her daughter, Ashley Biden, who notified her of the craze the photo caused. "You know, my daughter called me right after I left that shop and said, 'Mom, everyone's talking about this scrunchie.'"
She continued, "I said, 'What scrunchie?' I didn't know what she was talking about. I still don't understand it."
Biden had posted a photo to her Twitter page of the outing, scrunchie in full view. Many users took to the replies to note how iconic and relatable the scrunchie moment was for them, all while Biden remained unaware of the tailspin she caused for scrunchie fans.
"She's wearing a scrunchie! I love this relatable woman!!!" one user wrote. Another chimed in, "I cannot describe how cute I think you are in that pink coat and a scrunchie. Thank goodness for authentic kindness and love returning to our White House."
Clarkson replied to Biden't scrunchie confusion in jest, "Well, I'm just saying, if you're gonna start bringing back scrunchies, throw in the banana clips as well."
