While they may be man's best friend, not all of them are equally friendly or polite, so the question must be asked, what dogs should would-be-owners stay away from?

One U.K. veterinarian is blowing up online for his list of the top five worst dogs to own. The vet said that Chow Chows, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Dachshunds, Shar-Peis, and French Bulldogs should all be avoided because of health concerns and/or behavioral mannerisms.

Veterinarian Dr. Justine Lee joined News Talk 830 WCCO' Vineeta Sawkar to discuss the list, and while she can agree with some of his reasoning, she doesn't think the list is fair.

"Every veterinarian and every pet owner has their own favorite breed," Lee shared.

When it comes to picking a dog, Lee says that finding an "exceptional breeder" is more important than the specific dog you want.

"There are great breeders out there. There are also really bad ones out there, so when in doubt, you always want to do your research," Lee said.

But for many looking for a furry companion, adoption is often a leading factor, with many saying it's better to "adopt, not shop."

While she agrees and adopts herself, Lee shared that some people do want specific standards in their pets.

"But, please keep in mind there's also a lot of breed rescues. You can actually adopt a purebred dog," Lee said. "When in doubt, check with your veterinarian."
