DETROIT (WWJ) – Organizers of this weekend’s Motor City Pride Festival and Parade say this year – the 50th anniversary of the event – will be bigger and better than ever.

Dave Wait, an executive with Motor City Pride, tells WWJ’s Erin Vee the event features three pillars that are crucial to the LGBTQ+ community – celebration, advocacy and connection.

All will be on display this weekend in downtown Detroit as Motor City Pride marks 50 years of Pride in the city.

Hart Plaza along the Detroit River will play host to a festival with food, drinks, music, art and other performances from 1-9 p.m. Saturday and 12-7 p.m. on Sunday.

A parade will march down Griswold Street, beginning at noon on Sunday, followed by the festival at 12:30 p.m.
