
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (1010 WINS) — One student was killed in a shooting at a North Carolina high school on Wednesday — and police are still searching for the suspect, said Winston-Salem Police Department Chief Catrina Thompson.
Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem was put on lockdown shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday due to a shooting "on school property," the Winston-Salem Police Department tweeted.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office confirmed that one student had been injured, but said in a tweet that "all other students are safe." Authorities were "actively seeking the suspect," the sheriff's office added.
"Mount Tabor High School is on lockdown," the Winston-Salem Police Department tweeted at 1:02 p.m. "There has been a shooting on school property. We and the WSPD have secured the campus and are doing everything possible to keep students safe. We are actively investigating what happened and will share confirmed information when available."
An earlier tweet from Winston-Salem Police read, "Parents, do not respond to Mt. Tabor High School. We will post pick up locations as soon as possible."
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, subsequently tweeted, "UPDATE: They are transporting all students to the Robinhood Family YMCA. Parents can report there to be reunited with their children. Reunification will take some time as students are being transported in stages."
