Former pageant queen comes back to life after being declared dead from COVID: ‘A miracle’

A former pageant queen is showing everyone that miracles do happen.

Barbara Guthrie Lay, who won the title of Miss Virginia in 1958, came back to life after being declared dead from COVID-19, WSET reported.

The 82-year-old was pronounced dead on December 22. Suddenly minutes later, doctors discovered that she still had a pulse.

Guthrie Lay currently lives in Roswell, Georgia, with her husband of six years, Tony Lay.

According to her husband, the 82-year-old contracted the deadly virus from the couple’s next-door neighbor. She was admitted to the hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties, a common COVID-19 symptom.

Two days later, the pageant queen’s husband received the call that she had passed away. Emotionally devastated, he began notifying family and friends when he received the shocking news that she had regained a pulse.

“I was overjoyed and tearful again,” Lay said. “I went from being miserable and brokenhearted to overjoyed.”

Lay says that doctors are still unsure how this incident happened. Since almost passing away, Guthrie Lay has been moved from the ICU to a regular room in the hospital.

Her family said that she is not aware that she briefly passed and are still deciding whether or not to tell her.

“I have always loved my wife,” Lay said. “I just didn’t realize exactly how much until this happened and that I can’t live without her.”

Lay explained how his wife is a fighter and wants to live to 101 to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
