Gasoline is expensive. Airfares are up. Travel doesn't sound as fun this summer. Hence, more families are looking to save money this summer by staying home by the pool.
Pool maintenance expert Will Smith is with Premium Poolsmith of Grapevine, TX. He said, as you splash around more often, there are essential steps pool owners should follow on a regular basis, including daily monitoring of the water level, emptying baskets and checking the cleaning systems, and filters and testing the water in the pool.
Smith told the KRLD Morning News more North Texans are switching to saltwater pools, estimating about 40% of his local customers have made the change. He said the initial conversion is more pricey, but added the long-term savings on chemicals and other maintenance products add up.
And considering that you can warm your pool in the colder months, some wonder if it is also possible to cool the water temperature in the summertime. Smith said there are chiller devices on the market, but they are very expensive and only lower the temp by about five degrees on average.
