NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The Sabra Dipping Company is voluntarily recalling more than 2,000 cases of its popular hummus, including some cases sold in New Jersey, because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Salmonella was discovered in a single tub of hummus during a routine screening, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which said no illnesses or consumer complaints have been reported.

The recall impacts 2,100 cases of Sabra’s 10 oz Classic Hummus. No other Sabra products are affected.

The recall is limited to 1 SKU of 10 oz Classic Hummus produced on Friday, Feb. 10, 2021 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. with a “Best Before” date of April 26. (Images of the affected product are below.)

The hummus was distributed in 16 states. New Jersey and Maine are the only states in the Northeast where the hummus was distributed.

Consumers can contact Sabra Consumer Relations at 1-866-265-6761 for additional information Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.

People who purchased the recalled product are urged to return it to the place of purchase or visit sabrahummusrecall.com for a reimbursement.

More information about the recall can be found at FDA.gov.

Eating food contaminated with salmonella can cause salmonellosis, which can lead to symptoms of diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within 12 to 72 hours.

Most people recover from salmonellosis, but in rare circumstances infection can produce more severe illness and require hospitalization.
