Thief caught on video choking out victim in Upper Manhattan NYC

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police say they are hunting a robber who put his victim in a choke hold in Upper Manhattan Friday.

Video shows the suspect approaching the 23-year-old victim at around 10 p.m. inside a building on West 147th Street, near Amsterdam Avenue.


The robber initially pulls out a gun and approaches the man from behind. When the victim attempted to flee, the suspect put him into a rear choke hold until he went unconscious.

He is shown riffling through the victim's belongings, stealing a cell phone, wallet, backpack and $1,000 in cash. He then ran off in an unknown direction.

The victim suffered bruising to his neck and was treated at the scene by EMS.

The attacker is described as a dark-skinned male with a beard, mustache, black sunglasses and a black backpack. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, black sneakers and a white t-shirt with the words "R.I.P. Youth" written on the front and a graphic of an upside down tombstone on the back.
