However you feel about him, the public is well-accustomed to President Donald Trump's personal idiosyncrasies, from the staccato way he speaks to the superlatives he loves and even the dance moves he occasionally busts out. But as the fragile ceasefire in Iran appears to become hollow, a former congresswoman says he's gone far enough to be labeled 'insane.'
Marjorie Taylor Greene, the former Republican Georgia representative, was famously one of Trump's most ardent supporters until she broke with him. She became one of his most vocal critics over the halted release of the Epstein files, which many expected to show the powerful men who were paying Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with young girls.
Now that they're apparently enemies, she says Trump's fiery rhetoric -- like his social post that 'an entire civilization will die tonight' if they didn't meet U.S. demands -- shows that he has "gone insane" in his approach to leading the nation.
"The way that the president has acted and the words that he's used, and the change in policy that he's taken has been shocking to many Americans," Greene said on BBC.
Trump has faced backlash recently for posts where he criticized the Pope, shared an AI image of himself as Jesus Christ, and then quickly deleted it when Catholics around the world protested. But when it comes to his language and threats towards Iran, Greene insinuated he should be removed from office.
In a social media post on April 5, Trump used explicit language and threats towards Iran, demanding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. In an April 5 social media post, Trump ordered Iran to “open the F***in’ Strait, you crazy b*******, or you’ll be living in Hell,” ending the post with “Praise be to Allah.”
In another post from April 7, the president threatened that a “whole civilization will die tonight” unless Iran agreed to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz.
"We're talking about innocent men, women and children. That is insanity," Greene told the BBC. "Those are words that should be taken very seriously and those are words that many Americans were outraged by."
For his part Trump has called Greene "a traitor," "wacky," and a "low IQ" individual after she broke with him on key issues. Notably, she was previously known to wear a hat that said 'Trump was right about everything.'
Now, she says he has betrayed his campaign promises with foreign wars
As for Iran, the situation is confusing, with Trump announcing the ceasefire has been extended and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards saying they have attacked and seized two cargo ships near the Strait of Hormuz.
"The attacks showed how both Iran and the United States were seeking to exert control over shipping in the area. Even as Mr. Trump announced the cease-fire extension late on Tuesday, before it was set to expire, he said the United States would continue to block ships heading to and from Iranian ports — a move that Iran’s foreign minister called “an act of war," the New York Times reported.
They added that Vice President JD Vance’s planned trip to Pakistan for peace talks was put on hold Tuesday because "Tehran had not responded to American demands in the negotiations."
