A hoverboard unexpectedly exploded inside a Utah family’s home, prompting the mother to warn others to keep a working fire extinguisher in their home.

Tamilisa Miner posted the video to Facebook with images of the burnt board and fire damage to her Lehi, Utah home.

When the video begins, two children are crying and screaming hysterically as smoke billows from the board. Miner is standing near the hoverboard but steps back to assess.

As the two children sprint past the smoking device, it immediately explodes, nearly missing them and shooting flames into the air. The fire scorched the wall. Miner – armed with an oven mitt – attempts to move the device causing it to shoot flames in the opposite direction. She races to pick up the burning pieces.

Miner posted the 20-second video to her Facebook with a warning.

“Dear everyone in the world. A fire extinguisher saved my home today and possibly lives too," she wrote. “Do you have one? Or two or three? Do you know where they are? Do you know how to use them?”

In her post, Miner concluded the hoverboard had overcharged from being left plugged in too long.

“Battery cells shot out like shrapnel starting smaller fires,” Miner said. “Then the kids chair caught fire, the kitchen rug, and my panicked mind didn't know when to stop and give up, or to keep fighting. I didn't even think about grabbing one of our fire extinguishers until [my husband] rushed in with one!”

“We are extremely lucky that we were awake,” she lamented. “Minutes before, we were in bed from the late night. If it was in the garage we wouldn't have known. During the night, heaven help us.”

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has warned consumers to only charge hoverboard batteries while it is within sight. The agency has investigated more than 250 hoverboard fire incidents since 2015, FOX News reported.
