This is a pretty sweet way to make sure your players are doing their best!
Coach Carmicheal is a football instructor at Jonesboro High School in Georgia and he clearly is a big fan of his team.
The creative coach first got the idea to give his offensive line maple syrup when they were doing "pancakes", also known as blocking their opponents well. So he started carrying syrup on his hip, symbolizing the teamwork between football players and their coach.
"We all are a big family at Jonesboro," Carmicheal told Radio.com. "Everyone from players, parents, other coaches, refs, etc asked 'coach, why you carrying around syrup?"
Now the 'syrup shots' are the team's favorite tradition to do when someone makes a good block or touchdown.
"It has been a hit ever since," he said. "I believe this day and age when coaching kids you have to have something extra for them to look for or an incentive to make them go harder."
While the symbolism is important, we bet the sweet taste during a tough game is even better!
