Rangers vs Mariners

The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners continue perhaps the most important series of the final weekend of the MLB season on Friday night. The Mariners secured a 3-2 win in the series opener on Thursday night to keep their hopes alive in the AL West and stay a game back of Houston for the final Wild Card spot. For Seattle, every game for the rest of the season is a must-win game whereas the Rangers have a two-game cushion atop the division and could potentially clinch the AL West title with a win on Friday. They will look to Nathan Eovaldi to deliver that win for them. On the season, Eovaldi is 12-4 with a 3.26 ERA, but he has struggled in September, posting a 7.41 ERA over his last five starts. Despite getting a win over the Mariners last Sunday, Eovaldi allowed five runs in five innings of work, hurting himself by giving up two home runs. Of course, the Mariners have been held to three runs of less in four of their last six games, so they aren’t clicking offensively at the moment. Seattle may need a strong outing from rookie Bryan Woo, who is 4-5 with a 4.39 ERA over his 17 starts this year. Woo has had his ups and downs lately, pitching at least five scoreless innings in three of his last five starts. However, he got knocked around by Texas for six runs over 3.1 innings, including four home runs on Sunday. Based on that, Eovaldi seems more likely to deliver a strong outing for his team on Friday night, helping the Rangers win a game that could clinch the division if the Astros lose.
