Russell Westbrook was dealt to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night in a three-team trade but could very quickly find himself elsewhere — possibly Chicago.
According to Chris B. Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Bulls are interested in signing Westbrook should he secure a buyout from the Jazz.
Utah is in a rebuilding phase, making it very likely that the Jazz would buy out the 34-year-old and the $15-$16 million he is still owed this season in his $47 million contract.
The Bulls emerge as a possible landing spot as the team is still without Lonzo Ball as he recovers from a surgically repaired left knee —leaving the team without a point guard and no definitive timetable on Ball’s return.
How Westbrook may fit in with guys like DeMar DeRozan may be a challenge for head coach Billy Donovan, but the Bulls may have limited options if they want to add a point guard. Chicago would also have to waive a player and make a trade to fit Westbrook’s contract.
Westbrook has not been an All-Star since the 2019-20 season and struggled at times this year with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is averaging 15.9 points per game — his lowest since his rookie season — and 7.5 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game while coming off the bench for LA.
The Los Angeles Clippers are also expected to be interested in Westbrook, too.
