Now that Washington has its new name, the organization is turning its attention to a new quarterback.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Washington Commanders plan to “comb the big-ticket quarterback market” and will not limit themselves in their pursuit.
If we are truly talking “big-ticket” this would imply the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson.
Rodgers, 38, has yet to make a decision on his future — whether that involves returning to Green Bay, retirement or requesting a trade.
Wilson reportedly wants to explore his options this offseason and there have been reports dating back to last year that things are not going smoothly in Seattle.
Both Rodgers and Wilson will likely try to dictate where they want to go, but it is unclear if Washington is on either of their radars.
Watson, meanwhile, is still embroiled in 22 civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct or assault, making him a much more unpredictable option. There is also the fact that Washington is dealing with its own scandal of its treatment of women in the workplace.
Other quarterbacks that are a step down from “big-ticket” but could be more realistic include Jimmy Garoppolo, Jameis Winston (a free agent), Kirk Cousins or Derek Carr.
