(610 Sports) It often looks like there's nothing that Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes can't do on the football field. But what if he was a baseball player?
Mahomes is the son of former MLB reliever Patrick Mahomes Sr. and grew up around the game of baseball, becoming a talented high school pitcher before getting selected to the Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB amateur draft. He likely would have been chosen higher if not for his commitment to Texas Tech to play football.
Mahomes was part of the Texas Tech baseball team as a freshman, making just three appearances before turning his focus solely on football.
"I feel like I had topped out in baseball," Mahomes said Monday as Super Bowl week opened. "I don't know how much better I would've gotten. I played it my whole entire life. I know when I went back to play baseball my freshman year of college, I wasn't the same player as I was my senior year of high school.
"I don't know if I would've made it. I would've tried. I would've worked my tail off to try to get there. But I'm definitely glad I chose football."
Kansas City is glad for Mahomes' choice. He has the Chiefs seeking their second straight Super Bowl championship as they face the Buccaneers on Sunday.
