Doris Burke Set to Reach Historic Milestone in NBA Playoffs

Doris Burke continues to make history.

The ESPN broadcaster is scheduled to serve as the game analyst on ESPN Radio for the conference and NBA Finals, which would make her the first woman on a network television or radio broadcast to fulfill such a role deep into the NBA Playoffs.

The 54-year-old has been with the network since 2003 and became the first full-time female NBA game analyst in 2017.

Burke has worked the NBA Finals since 2009 as a sideline reporter, but this will be the first time she will be part of the broadcast booth for it.

“Doris is a trailblazer who continues to reimagine what is possible for women in broadcasting,” Stephanie Druley, ESPN’s executive vice president of event and studio production said, via The Associated Press. “We know she’ll thrive in this history-making radio analyst role.”

Rachel Nichols will serve as the new sideline reporter and host the trophy presentation at the end of the NBA Finals.

Burke has emerged as a fan favorite in the booth and went semi-viral when she made a zinger about her ex-husband during a Pelicans-Grizzlies game earlier this summer when the NBA bubble had just gotten started.

She will call the games in the conference and NBA Finals alongside play-by-play voice Marc Kestecher and fellow analyst and former NBA star Jon Barry.
