4 potential landing spots for Adam Frazier via trade

Next week, Adam Frazier will be one of the two All-Star representatives for the Pittsburgh Pirates at the midsummer classic.

Within two weeks of making his first All-Star Game appearance, Frazier could find himself wearing another uniform.

The 29-year-old is slashing .326/.396/.461 with a 2.6 fWAR in 2021, making this already his most productive season of his career. Frazier does have one remaining year of arbitration eligibility, so the Pirates don't have to trade him, which is perhaps why Robert Murray of FanSided has previously reported that the asking price for the second baseman is "sky high."

Still, the Pirates are incentivized to cash in on Frazier's value while it's at an all-time high, which makes us think Ben Cherington and company will find a suitor before the July 30 trade deadline. Here's a look at four potential landing spots for Frazier:

New York Mets

Audacy Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman says that Sandy Alderson and the Mets are 'in on' Frazier as they look to increase their chances of winning the National League East. As WFAN's Ryan Chichester noted, acquiring Frazier would allow the Mets to use Jeff McNeil at third base on a relatively consistent basis. Frazier also has experience playing both corner outfield positions, which could allow Luis Rojas to use him to spell Dominic Smith or Michael Conforto, both of whom disappointed in the first half of the season.

Chicago White Sox

While USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that the White Sox have pondered the idea of trading for Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story and using him at second base, acquiring Frazier to fill that void may be a more realistic idea. Indeed, Heyman reported last week that the White Sox are "taking a closer look at" Frazier. Nick Madrigal had season-ending surgery on his right hamstring, so Frazier could become Tony La Russa's primary second baseman for the remainder of the year, as the White Sox look to return to the playoffs for the second straight season.

San Francisco Giants

If you've been waiting for Gabe Kapler's Giants to come back down to earth, it hasn't happened. Even in a division with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, it's the Giants who lead the National League West with 54 wins, tied for the most in baseball. Both Kapler and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi would value the positional flexibility that Frazier would bring to San Francisco. Would Frazier be an upgrade over Donovan Solano at second base? Yes, and he'd also be a better option in left field than what Alex Dickerson has given them in the first half of 2021.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Andrew Friedman and the Dodgers love collecting players who can play multiple positions, which makes Frazier an interesting potential acquisition. Zach McKinstry has done an admirable job at second base in 2021, but Frazier has been significantly better. Frazier might also be a better option in left field than what A.J. Pollock is at this stage of his career.
