Jacob deGrom will make his return for the New York Mets Tuesday evening against the Colorado Rockies, manager Luis Rojas told the collective media, including Tim Healey of Newsday.
The two-time National League Cy Young Award winner hasn't pitched for the Mets since May 9 in Arizona, a start that he left early with right side tightness. An MRI didn't reveal any type of major injury, but deGrom still went on the 10-day injured list.
deGrom looked more than ready to return in a rehab appearance for Low-A St. Lucie on Friday, striking out eight batters in three perfect innings.
Despite not pitching at the major league level for a few weeks, FanGraphs still says that deGrom - who has a 0.68 ERA, 1.08 FIP and a 2.2 fWAR in six starts - has been the second most valuable pitcher in the sport this season. If he's healthy from here on out, deGrom still has a chance to make his fourth All-Star team and add to one of the more dominant peaks we've ever seen from a starting pitcher.
Even though the Mets have dealt with a slew of injuries in 2021, they still entered the day with a 2 1/2 game lead over both the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves in the National League East.
