In the face of a career-ending car crash and the loss of his arm a week ago, Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton is also seeing a touching display of kindness.
Among well-wishers is new Dolphins head coach Brian Flores — who cut his vacation short to be by Norton’s side — as well as his former Miami Hurricanes coach Manny Diaz, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport tweeted Monday.
Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard also shouted out Norton on Instagram, encouraging fans to support a GoFundMe page established to help with the likely financial toll that the end of Norton’s playing career will have on him and his family. Current Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tate Martell also asked followers for donations on Twitter.
Norton, 22, was critically injured on July 4 when a Ford F-250 he was driving side-swiped a Maserati, smashed into a concrete barrier and overturned.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Norton left arm had to be amputated.
Norton will have his sixth and possibly final surgery Monday before he can be released from the hospital, according to reports.
The NFL and the Dolphins have stepped up to cover the cost of Norton’s medical care.
