Kevin Durant isn’t apologizing for basically telling a fan to pound sand.

In a fairly innocuous move, a courtside spectator tried to give some support to the Brooklyn Nets star during their eventual 113-111 loss to the Dallas Mavericks last week. The fan implored Durant to take the game over, and Durant actually turned around to respond.

“Shut the f— up and sit down,” he fired back.

The profanity cost Durant $25,000 in a fine paid to the league. And while he admitted on his podcast "The ETCs with Kevin Durant" that he knows sometimes his emotions get the better of him, he also can’t fully help it.

“We all have, when you really want to win something, I feel it in my teammates and my opponents too, you just snap at a ref or snap at yourself for missing a shot or not getting something right," Durant said. "Sometimes I may take wanting to win too seriously where I may curse a fan out or curse a ref out because I feel like they get in the way of what I'm trying to do, but in all reality I’m just getting in my own way. There’s a mental game that you’re playing out there, and when you think back on it it’s fun to go through that stuff, but you realize how many emotions you put into something.

“I just can’t take it when somebody’s trying telling me what I need to do," he then added. "Like, ‘Come on KD, go take this game over,’ I’m just like all right man, you don’t see me trying out here for four quarters and really giving it my all? Shut your a-- up. Seriously. He said it just like he was my coach, I just didn’t like it at the time, so there may be times when you catch me where I just might not be in the mood.”

So, basically, a word of advice to fans: even if you’re being encouraging, Durant might not take kindly to you yelling at him.
