Michael Thomas’ stint on the PUP list did not last very long.
The New Orleans Saints wide receiver was back at practice on Wednesday and cleared from the physically unable to perform list just one day after opening camp on it.
The 29-year-old did not participate in team drills but did do individual work. He had not yet been cleared at the start of camp as he continued to rehab from surgery on his ankle that kept him out of the entire 2021 season.
General manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Dennis Allen hinted that Thomas’ absence would not be very long, with both expressing optimism when meeting with reporters on Tuesday.
“I like where Michael Thomas is,” Loomis said. “Certainly I’d love there not to be any issues at all but that’s not the nature of what we’re dealing with right here. I feel like…it won’t be very long before we see him out there on the practice field and starting working him back in and getting him ready for the season.”
Thomas has not played a full season since 2019 and only appeared in seven games in 2020.
If he is healthy and can return to his 2019 form, the Saints will be getting an All-Pro receiver added to their arsenal, which also includes the additions of Jarvis Landry and rookie Chris Olave.
