NBA players will reportedly have several weeks to ramp up workouts should the season resume at some point.
The league and players are discussing a plan where players would have about 25 days to prepare for games in the case play picks back up, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
To get back in shape, players would have about 10 days of working out in isolation to observe social-distancing measures as long as possible, then about two weeks of team workouts and practices, Windhorst said.
The NBA season has been suspended for over a month now, after two Utah Jazz players tested positive for coronavirus and prompted a flurry of cancelations and suspensions by other leagues. Numerous return proposals have been floated in the weeks since, though there's little clarity as to when that might happen after the pandemic exacted its heaviest weekly toll in the US in the second week of April.
Obviously, a 25-day mini-preseason could push back the timeframe for a potential return considerably, but a ramp-up period of some length seems unavoidable given the lengthy layoff.
