There was some great news for sports bettors and Chicago Cubs fans, and those who are both, on Thursday when plans to build a two-story sportsbook adjacent to Wrigley Field were approved.
The Commission on Chicago Landmarks voted unanimously to open the betting site, which will be accessible to the public prior to, during, and after Cubs games, even to those who do not have tickets to the games. Fans will also be able to enter Wrigley Field from inside the sportsbook.
In a statement on this news, the Cubs said, "With this approval by the Chicago Landmarks Commission, we are excited to realize the potential envisioned by the State of Illinois to bring revenue, jobs and an exciting amenity to our fans. This sportsbook will play a huge role in helping to create economic impact through job creation, wages, investments and revenue for the City, State and County at a time when new sources of revenue are needed to fund infrastructure projects and education."
This approval comes after the Cubs inked a multiyear partnership with DraftKings in 2020.
