The MLB season is still young but the betting odds are making moves. Through the winning streaks, losing streaks, rainouts, and doubleheaders, there is action in the line movement and liabilities in each division race. Odds are shortening for underdogs and getting longer for some favorites. And BetMGM has the scoop on all the fluctuation.
“We have seen a lot of line movement in the division markets. The Yankees have become stronger favorites to win the AL East despite being in last place in the division,” BetMGM Sports Trader Seamus Magee said. “The Red Sox and Royals have seen significant line movement as they have early leads and would be big liabilities if they were to win their respective divisions.”
Going across the map from East to West in each league, let’s take a look at how the MLB division odds are playing out, according to BetMGM.
In the AL East, there’s been some line movement with the New York Yankees and the surprising Boston Red Sox. The Yankees have moved from -175 to -200 (now -140) as the division win favorites. The Red Sox made a huge swing from +2500 to +450 (now +325). Boston is also the biggest liability in the division.
The AL Central has a little line movement going with a couple of teams shortening their odds. The Minnesota Twins moved from +140 to +120 (now +110) and the Kansas City Royals odds made a move up from +4000 to +2000 (now +1000). The Twins have the second shortest to win the division behind the Chicago White Sox (+105). The Royals are the biggest liability.
In the AL West, we’ve got a nice little move for the Houston Astros from +150 to +105 (now +110) to win the division. The Seattle Mariners are the biggest liability in this region, with +2000 odds to take the division title. Seattle has the fourth-best odds on the list behind the Astros, Oakland Athletics (+225), and the Los Angeles Angels (+225).
On to the National League where we find the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies odds on the move in the NL East. The Mets line moved from +175 to +135 (now +110) in first place to win the division. And the Phillies went from +850 to +450. Philadelphia has the third shortest odds behind the Mets and the Atlanta Braves (+200). The Mets are the biggest liability of the group.
In the NL Central, we’ve got some shorter odds for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals went from +250 to +175 (now +180) and the Brewers moved from +300 to +230 (now +200). The Brew Crew are also the biggest liability in the division.
And now we come to the NL West, where the Los Angeles Dodgers are the overwhelming favorites. The Dodgers moved from -200 to -500 (now -600). The biggest liability is the long shot Colorado Rockies, with staggering +15000 odds to win the division.
There’s a lot of season left to play, but the line movements and liabilities in each division race are definitely something to keep an eye on as some teams either rocket to the top or race to the bottom.
