Spring training is right around the corner, which means it is once again Tebow Time in Port St. Lucie.
The former Heisman Trophy winner will be back at Mets camp this spring as one of the limited non-roster invitees to spring training.
Tebow, 33, has been invited to Mets camp in each of the last four years after the former NFL quarterback and current SEC Network football analyst decided to pursue a baseball career in 2016.
The left-handed hitting outfielder hit his first spring training home run last year before camp was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The pandemic resulted in minor-league baseball being completely shut down as well, so Tebow has not played a full season since 2019 – where he struggled in Triple-A, hitting .163 with four home runs, 19 RBI and 98 strikeouts in 264 plate appearances.
Tebow, whose 2018 season was cut short due to a broken hamate bone in his right hand, said back in November he was still committed to trying to reach his dream of playing in the majors.
“I’m already behind the 8-ball in age and time and experience in all of these things, so of course it makes it harder,” he said, per MLB.com. “But I think at the same time, I try to learn from every bit of it. And that’s all that we can do.”
