A generous animal lover is apparently staking a prospective $100,000 donation on Kansas City Chiefs star defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, an animal rights activist.
The anonymous would-be donor will fork over the six-figure windfall to PETA in the event that Mathieu records an interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, the group said.
Mathieu, who played college ball at LSU and had NFL stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans, has previously appeared in promotional materials for the animal-rights organization, including a pair of videos aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of exposing pets to extreme temperatures.
The group recognized Mathieu for his efforts in December, when Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes honored the "Honey Badger," as he's known, at a 40th anniversary party.
The potential $100,000 donation has been earmarked for PETA efforts in rural Virginia and North Carolina, where it would be spent providing free pet services in low-income communities.
Other NFL stars have also voiced their support for PETA, including Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, who touted his vegan diet in one of the group's videos last year.
Mathieu, 28, was named first-team All-Pro for the second time in his career in 2020. Among his six picks this season was an interception of Brady in a Week 12 matchup. For his career, the ballhawking defensive back has 23 picks and four forced fumbles.
