When Tom Brady retired earlier in the winter, much of the narrative was about how his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, more or less was strong-arming him into it.

So, then, what had to have changed in order for Brady to come back? In the eyes of one NFL insider, probably nothing, because he didn’t think Gisele had anything to do with the quarterback walking away in the first place.

Gisele had made clear her reservations about Brady continuing to play. But when push came to shove, ESPN’s Seth Wickersham told WEEI’s “Merloni and Fauria” that she was fine with him continuing to play.

“She was very vocal about her desire for him to walk away,”Wickersham said. “But I think that she was OK with him playing again, and she wasn’t forcing him to retire. It was his decision, and if he had said I wanted to play another year at the end of the season, play until I’m 45, she would have supported that.

“They’re building a house in Miami, it’s near Tampa for them, they can get back-and-forth easily. I think that if he had said I want to play in San Francisco, how does that change things? That would be moving the family again, second time in three years, but obviously it never came to that. I think that she’s always been supportive about what he wants to do right now. If he’s 50-years-old and still playing football it might be a different thing.”

The San Francisco point is a good one. At this point, the Brady family is familiar with Florida. If there was any hesitancy on Gisele’s part for the quarterback to return, perhaps returning to a comfortable place might have allayed some of those worries.

Only they know, and Gisele must be on board with the decision to at least some degree seeing as Brady is going to be back in 2022.
