As it's been about a decade since her last release and well known "Scars To Your Beautiful", Alessia and Bennett reflect on Alessia's past songs still making an impact today. "These are songs that I play every morning on my show in Philadelphia," says Bennett. "What does that mean to you after all these years? I mean these songs still mean so much to everyone."
"It's crazy, and thank you for playing them still, I appreciate it. It's honestly so wild because you know, you don't even think people are gonna hear these songs once, or care about them once, let alone year after year after year. It's so interesting now seeing [like] people out of my demographic that are younger that are like discovering these songs again, and it's interesting. I feel like it's becoming, scary to say, almost like nostalgic music for some people, the same way I feel about early 2000's and 90's."
Fast-forward 10 years to present day, Alessia dives into how it feels to have her new project out in the world. "I just feel so happy that it's out. I've been sitting on this music for so long, and it's my favorite music I've ever written. So, I'm just so happy that people get to hear it now."
While noting our favorite album tracks, we had to jump into the special appearance from John Mayer on "(Isn't It) Obvious)" and how it came into fruition.
"He's amazing. He's one of my favorite artists ever. One of my favorite musicians ever. I've always had him in the back of my mind for maybe someday doing some sort of collab. I didn't want to use the card until it felt like the right song. So, once I wrote "(Isn't It) Obvious" I thought, 'This would be so cool for John Mayer' but I just didn't say anything for awhile. Then it came time to turn in the song, and there was an empty space in it I either had to choose to write something to, leave it, or I didn't know what to do. I was like, 'A John Mayer solo here would be just spectacular' so I just bit the bullet and asked, fully expecting him to politely decline, and it was the complete opposite."
While chatting on more of Alessia's favs, Bennett also looks back on Alessia winning her well-deserved 2018 GRAMMY for Best New Artist, asking her thoughts on Chappell Roan taking home the crown this year.
"Oh my gosh, I love her, love her. I felt like she was gonna win that. Her artistry is just so beautiful, and so well crafted. There were so many other people that I was also rooting for, that category was the most stacked I've seen. I was like, I genuinely don't know who I would pick. There are so many incredible artists this year that have just been working for years that have finally broken through. I thought it was great. I'm so happy for her, and I'm so happy for everyone in that category who's had such a wonderful year."
We can't wait for Alessia's wonderful year ahead. Hear more on her new album, tour must-haves, go-to Philly cheesesteak, the song she wishes she wrote, and more in her and Bennett's chat above.
