Chesterfield Has System Issues On First Virtual School Day

Chesterfield, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Update:  Chesterfield has offered a large explanation to what happened on their facebook page, and in messages to parents.  You can see it here.

Chesterfield Public Schools suffered a virtual school "meltdown" on the first day of classes, as students found they could not log into the system, and those that were in got kicked out.  The day began fine when the middle school students logged in, but the issues seemed to occur when the high school students tried to get on around 8:30am.

The District is blaming the issues on capacity problems, and points the finger at their service provider.   Petersburg also has had issues.  Richmond has not commented, and Henrico so far has appeared to escape any major problems.

Social media reaction has been critical of Chesterfield, who is beginning the year virtually, like the other three districts already mentioned.  Hanover is doing a mixture of in person and virtual school, although they have already had to cancel classes at Liberty Middle School because of a Covid outbreak.
